Same is genuine ray skin with a black suede/leather Itto Make and cotton, black Sageo. The Fuchi and Kashira are in a brushed design with the fittings, Habaki, Seppa and Shitodome done in silver. Saya is black and has been finished slightly matt though not fully Kuroishime. The Tsuka is double pegged for added security on this Japanese Sword.

Study on the use of the Japanese sword is a very serious endeavor. Students of Iaido (Way of the Sword Draw) typically learn the sword using various instruments. Most likely they will begin with a bokken / bokuto (wooden sword) and then an Iaito (un-edged training sword) before handling a Shinken (live sword). Iaito are an integral tool in the learning process allowing students to practice with a sword with a sense of safety for themselves and for those around them. Iaito by CAS Hanwei are light (less than 2lbs.) and extremely well balanced to reduce the wear-and-tear on specific joints. The un-edged blades are crafted in 400 series stainless steel with a simulated hamon and are fully tempered to withstand repeated drawing and practice cutting strokes. Each Japanese Swords blade features a bo-hi (groove), which both reduces blade weight and produces an audible feedback when practice cutting strokes are made correctly. We offer three distinct models with various fittings.

Paul Chen Tori Iaito Sword
The Tori katana Japanese Sword combines truly elegant furniture and a powder-steel folded blade with the functionality of our Performance Series. The Tori Japanese Sword features a ”Flying Crane” themed Tsuba and Fuchi/Kashira while the Menuki are Kabuto or Japanese helmets. The high quality brown leather Tsuka-ito is wrapped over black Same. The Saya is wrapped at the mouth with black-lacquered rattan and then finished in a textured brown. The Tori is available in three folded steel cutting blade profiles and three Iaito blade lengths.

Miyamoto Musashi, arguably the most famous swordmaster in Japanese samurai sword history, fought more than 60 duels before retiring and writing his famous treatise on swordplay, the “Book of Five Rings”.
